Risky business

YESTERDAY’s edition of The Scotsman contains several significant pointers to the damage likely to be caused by a Yes vote.

Two letters, one from the financial sector, one from a small business, both point to significant dangers following on a Yes vote.

In the Farming section, a major egg producer voices his fears of being squeezed out of the UK market by English producers in the event of a Yes vote.

The egg producer’s fears are one of many examples from the farming community.

Similarly, many of our major manufacturing companies have expressed concerns about their future viability in an independent Scotland.

Add to that Bill Jamieson’s concerns on the possible relocation of some, or even all, of our major financial institutions out of an independent Scotland,
affecting some 200,000 jobs, and the prospect of massive unemployment in Scotland following a Yes vote is a very real one indeed.

If there is a major loss of jobs, there is also a major drop in tax revenues, and the promises of a new, wonderful and rich
Scotland look very dubious
indeed. A Yes vote is a vote for poverty.
