Right to debate

SURELY if the Tory Party has entitlement to inclusion in election or referendum debates in Scotland, the SNP has the same right for this May’s general election debates elsewhere in the UK.

There is one Tory MP at Westminster elected in Scotland, whereas there are six elected SNP members at Westminster.

But David Cameron doesn’t seem to have qualms about this. Nor indeed does Scottish Labour’s new leader, Jim Murphy, who instead has been stretching his command of sophistry towards trying to convince voters in Scotland that he isn’t a Unionist.

Considering Ukip appears to have had automatic pre-election debates inclusion yet has only two elected party members in the Commons, there is something numerically out of kilter here.

And all this aside from actual party membership numbers.
