Rewriting history

AN INTERESTING article by Gerry Hassan (Perspective, 20 July) on how various political parties interpret Scotland’s past (usually to suit themselves ). Some accusations were made, eg Labour ignores the Scottish identity/nationalist past; nationalists cut out Labour/working-class history in their view.

Both leave out the Conservative/unionist history of Scotland in their picture of today (Tories being the only party to achieve more than 50 per cent of the popular vote since the Second World War). Both the nationalists and Labour politicians would have more credence if they didn’t airbrush Scotland’s Conservative history out of things (there is also a large Liberal story).
