Restricted income

I could not agree more with AS Edwards (Letters, 4 April), who says that large houses do no necessarily mean large incomes. We bought our home at a reasonable price some years ago and have since improved both the house and garden considerably.

Now, however, we are pensioners with a very restricted income and feel very strongly that basing council tax on house size, with no relation to income, is totally unacceptable.

Our council tax payment is already ridiculous at almost 2,000 per annum.
