Rest in peace

Your television preview of 27 April states of the late Margaret Thatcher: “The most controversial politician of the 20th century may have been laid to rest earlier this month, but the debate over her legacy continues.”

With all due respect to the lady, I should have thought that, inter alia, VI Lenin, Adolph Hitler, JS Stalin, Winston Churchill, Charles de Gaulle, Fidel Castro, Mao Ze Dong, Richard Nixon, Anwar Sadat, Pol Pot, Bill Clinton and at least a dozen others might have had a better chance of winning the “Most Controversial” gong at whatever awards ceremony awaits such individuals in the ever-after.

Thatcher? Compared with the above she’d be lucky to win best-of-breed at the comparable local dog show. Enough retrospective aggrandisement already!
