Respect in rugby

NORMAN Smith (Letters, 20 March) chooses to misunderstand my comment about the proliferation of the St George's Cross. I was not talking about Twickenham, but the south of England in general, where I see it as a sad but clear indication of the anti-Scottish backlash to which Gerry Hassan refers in his excellent article (19 March).

It is very interesting that Mr Smith joins all your other correspondents during the last week in completely avoiding my question about why the level of abuse has increased at the Scotland versus England international.

Undaunted, "Calcutta Cup Granny" set out on the streets of Edinburgh to conduct her own highly unscientific survey, and I am afraid to report the results were not pretty.
