Renewables route

We’d warmly welcome it if Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) was really to abandon its involvement in this expensive and dangerous technology of nuclear (your report, 23 September).

Pursuing a 100 per cent renewable future is the correct path for SSE to take and we’d now encourage each one of the companies left in the consortium, including ScottishPower’s owners Iberdrola, to also reconsider their nuclear ambitions.

Governments everywhere should be taking steps to end our reliance on nuclear and fossil fuels.

Support for reducing energy demand and boosting clean renewables is the only sensible energy policy to be following.

The whole of the UK should be following Scotland’s aim of generating 100 per cent of its electricity from renewables.
