The real issues

I AM afraid Joyce McMillan (Perspective, 3 August) has caught the Alex Salmond bug. She continually refers to the “people of
Scotland” and their views when what she really means is her own views.

I live a reasonably active life, get out and about with a wide range of friends, support my local football team and am in regular contact with my adult children and follow my grandchildren’s progress at school with interest.

May I assure Ms McMillan that, while her circle of acquaintances are clearly caught up in their “demands” for devo-max and so on, it is not a subject of remote interest to most. I would wager the average Scot would put her priorities and concerns light years behind health, education jobs, security and much else.

Some years ago I recall a poll putting constitutional changes behind dog poo in the park as a concern for the vast majority of Scots. Ms McMillan should come down from her ivory tower and join us in the real world.
