Jenny Dawe pledges to come clean over crisis-hit tram project, while pupils miss out on a St Andrew's Day holiday

City leader Jenny Dawe has ordered full details of the beleaguered tram project to be made public. Brace yourselves, this ain't going to be pretty.

No-one from TIE wished to comment? I hope Mandy is not being paid for this reluctance!

Why doesn't the council wind up TIE and take the project under direct control? They are going to get the blame for the fiasco so they might as well take responsibility for it as well.

The last thing TIE want is transparency. They have been hiding behind their cloak of "commercial confidentiality" for so long, they won't have a clue what to do once the real picture of their incompetence is finally revealed.

Seems to me there is a world of difference between a 'public' report and a publishing 'information in consultation with TIE'? Yet another whitewash looms.

So Jenny wants to provide the answers to questions that people on here have been asking for over two years. Jenny, we need clear, transparent, honest answers within the next week so we can decide whether or not everyone involved in this has one shred of credibility left.

The Evening News should name and shame all the politicians who voted in favour of trams. It is no longer acceptable for the council not to give full details of what exactly is going on. Businesses are failing because of this project.

If Jenny Dawe and her council minions were competent in the discharge of their official duties they would have been keeping a suitably vigilant watch over TIE. If so, we would not now need a public enquiry.

This is what I don't understand about how these people keep their jobs – the fact that she has to 'come clean' means that she was hiding and manipulating before. Somebody who does that needs firing – they are not fit for public office.

Tram bosses did receive some support, though.

The paranoia in this thread is almost tangible! There's nothing wrong, the project is moving along nicely, there's no more in-fighting than there is in any other large scale project around the world and everything is going to be a success.

I'll take your word for it. Meanwhile, school chiefs are to reject plans to have a holiday on St Andrew's Day.

I can't believe people voted NOT to have a holiday. Unless of course they weren't offered a holiday, but rather the offer to substitute it for an existing one? Which I believe is Labour's position on this.

The west awake

Perhaps people just aren't that bothered by the latest SNP crusade? I'd rather have a productive day at work/school as opposed to a day having to watch The Corries on SNP STV.

Since when did some wonkie doodle teachers' union type – who may have her own political agenda to grind – get to vote? Isn't St Andrew's Day the national holiday of the emerging nation of Scotland and as such should be celebrated? (Too bad it comes at an awkward time of year).
