It's all systems go in the race for No 10, taxi firms fail to raise fares and police are called to pubs 150 times each week

The general election race is officially under way, with the Capital constituencies set to play a key role in deciding the outcome.

Kevin Lang's deluge of election literature to date has been bordering on the embarrassing (all those family photos) and really quite unpleasant about the current MP, it does him and his party no credit at all.

Anyone who lived in West Lothian pre-SNP days are hardly likely to repeat the same mistake they did in the Holyrood elections. Those who voted SNP then owe Labour an apology for biting the social hand that cared for it. Forget rogue MPs, the biggest mistake is voting for rogue politics.

Front Street

A lot of former Labour voters want to give Broon a kicking for his many failures, not least emptying their purses for over a decade with little to show for it. But who to vote for? Not many Scots like the Tories and, here in Edinburgh, the Lib Dems are heavily implicated in the trams fiasco. Of the major parties, that only leaves the Nats. In spite of Salmond's sometimes unfortunate personal style, they could do well.

The Lone Haranguer

Lets face it, is there one party who gets it right on all counts? No, there's not.

I'll be voting Labour. I have little time for their policies but, let's face it, voting for anyone else is a vote for the Tories, and that doesn't even bear thinking about.

Vandala

I believe the Edinburgh Labour parties have decided not to give mention of the tram project in any of the election leaflets and not to get involved in doorstep discussions about it. So they go and spend a billion pounds and think the electorate will forget about it! New or Auld Labour anyone?

Gripes about Edinburgh's tram scheme are unlikely to make much difference to voters at this election.

Lib Dems > wishy washy. SNP > promise anything for votes, then go back on their word. Tories > homophobes who dislike Scotland (take a look at the shadow home secretary's recent comments about gays and b&bs). Be very careful which box you cross.

It's come down to Anybody but Labour and Tories! Get rid of the London deadbeats and bring home a REAL parly!

Well, that's us told. Taxi fares are being frozen for 18 months. Everyone happy?

Thank goodness for that.

The Real Alfonsa Pedrosa

Edinburgh prices sit at 244th out of 380 councils. What a bargain. Even with the rise they are still way off the top. Edinburgh in general is an expensive city and costs more to live here but that's the price you pay. Edinburgh has one of the newest and safest cab fleets in Britain, think yourself lucky at how cheap it is.

Since councillors are the taxi trade's best customers, surely it is a conflict of interest for them to determine the cost of fares?

Finbarr Saunders

Now, now. Finally, police are being called to 150 crimes in pubs and clubs every week.

How many pubs or clubs have lost their licences following police having to attend 'incidents'? If none – why not?
