The council is raising day care costs for pensioners and a monument to Scots who fought in WWI is under threat

You were angry at the announcement that the council is doubling the price of day care for the elderly

This is a disgrace, but the services would be free if our senior citizens register as drug addicts or alcoholics. Or better yet, become an illegal immigrant or asylum seeker then everything is free.

Rob a bank. Don't get caught - keep the money. Get caught - jail, three meals a day, heating, TV, computers, all free and company to boot! And support services when you get back out – simple

What a disgrace. Only yesterday there was another story about the ill treatment of an elderly lady with dementia. The council should be leading by example by providing top-quality services for the elderly and infirm. They deserve our respect and dignity.

I agree that this will have a significant impact on some of these people but I'd also like some indication of who should have their services cut or their charges put up.

The financial difficulties faced by the council and public sector are not in doubt. From now on it's going to be a race between tram articles and special interest groups saying don't cut my funding, cut someone else.

And who voted for trams rather than vital council services?

If you have been a hard-working, prudent saver all your life then the simple answer is to blow the lot on fun and frolics when you retire.

Become a homeless alcoholic jakey and make a nuisance of yourself outside the council offices, then they will be only too happy to throw taxpayers' money at you!

A monument in France dedicated to Scots who fell in the Battle of the Somme is under threat from land development

The threat to war memorials is not just in Contalmaison, our own cooncil will only be trusted after the Haymarket clock is replaced in its rightful spot.

There is no way that this monument in France will be interfered with. The French (and Belgians) have nothing but respect and gratitude for the sacrifices made by British (and especially Scottish) soldiers during both world wars.

A few years ago a memorial in a war cemetery in France was vandalised and some obnoxious rags were full of comments about ungrateful French scum. There are thousands of monuments all over France and instances of vandalism are very low – this is down to the way they have educated their children since 1945 on how much they owe in debt of gratitude to those who gave their lives for their freedom. Their respect is humbling.

Sadly we do not have the same level of respect in this country but we didn't have to live under the Nazis and didn't have to witness our families being dragged from their beds and shot or sent to concentration camps as many did in occupied France, nor did we have to endure massacres such as the one at Oradour.

Don't panic – our monuments are safe in French hands.

It's heading straight for us!
