The Royal Nip pub on Easter Road is to close this month for refurbishment, with rumours the football fan favourite is to become a wine bar.
If the pub ain't making money during Hibs' best start to the season, the season they were going to split the Old Firm, win the Scottish Cup and beat Hearts 4 times . . . it'll never make money!! Not sure it is in the catchment area for wine bar/coffee etc.

Hide AdThis is very sad news, the pub was always part of a Saturday along with the football.

At least there's still the Four in Hand – although the Hibees were saying that with 25 minutes to go the other night . . .

The area is probably now mostly young, professional single people or couples with no children and money to spend so I'd say it is the place for wine bars and coffee shops. Utopia has been there for a few years now and is a great pub/bar and seems to be doing well.

Is it not more the case that you need a few pints in you to build up the courage to go? Attendances at Easter Rd would seem to indicate that most guys stay in the boozer.

It certainly helps take the edge off the shoddy defending which has been on show frequently this year!

Only in Scotland would a pub changing its decoration make the top story section of the paper. Problem is, there's too many dafties who've been conditioned to think the only way they can enjoy themselves is through drinking and football.

As an Easter Road resident I couldn't be happier. Hopefully a few more will close down too. I'm from Ireland originally and, just like back home, Scottish people need to realise there is more to life than drinking. There are still about 5 or 6 around the Hibs ground.

"...the desire of another Easter Road pub, Utopia, to close on Saturday afternoons and dissociate itself from football...." Maybe the fans who spend time in the pub before a game should take a look at themselves and ask why this is the case . . .

Hide AdThe election continues to dominate the headlines, with some voters turned away from polling stations in England.
Maybe congratulations are in order for Edinburgh Council, they ran a very well organised election. No long queues or shortage of ballot papers here. Of course, if there was a mess, everyone would be on here moaning and gloating about it!

Finally, the SNP failed to win Livingston from Labour despite the Jim Devine expenses scandal.
If someone broke into your house and stole your big plasma 40in and stole all your worldly possessions, would you not want them punished? So why condone what all these MPs did to you and yours?

These voters might need some serious help to break the cycle.
