Boundary changes are mapped out, village tries to put brakes on rat runs and World Cup album hits a bum note

Constituency boundaries are changing ahead of next year's Holyrood elections, including splitting Midlothian in two.

The boundary changes will make no difference as Midlothian is full of bitter Labour-supporting ex-miners who see no other way than to vote like a flock of sheep for Labour election after election. There was a programme on the other night and it highlighted the inadequacies of the current constituencies where you have the Isle of Wight with over 100,000 voters with only one MP and others with 50,000 in Norfolk or the Western Isles with 22,000 who also get one MP.

Absolutely spot on. And the areas in Midlothian are increasingly looking like the remnants of bombsites because of this. The Labour voters never learn.

Jeremy Purvis wouldn't be so upset if it weren't for the fact that the boundary changes increase the chances of the Liberals losing the seat at next year's election.

St Andrew 49

Absolute madness. This illustrates the cancer at the heart of our democracy. Unelected officials moving Musselburgh aboot like wee chess pieces on a board to suit their agenda.

Well done the Boundary Commission for bringing a degree of sense to the boundaries in Edinburgh, the Lothians and the formerly totally nonsensical and gross over representation in the Scottish Borders. However, let's now get rid of regions and have proper STV PR. And then reduce the number of MPs so that boundaries for Westminster and Holyrood match.

Out to the west, residents in Newton have called for a new link road to the M9 to cut traffic from the new Forth road bridge.

Link the new bridge directly to the M9 and A90 and there would be no need for traffic to go through Newton. Local traffic could use the existing bridge to cross the Forth as this would be light vehicles in the main. All through traffic would be concentrated on the motorway system, reducing the impact on the local area.

Nitpicking

Yes, then the locals will complain when business falls away. You can't win!

Dragonlord

Presume the good folk of Newton don't give a hoot for congestion at other people's door when they commute into Edinburgh? Can't have it all ways folks.

There will be less traffic in Newton, not more. Most motorway users will go to the new junction 1a of the M9. Only truckers "in the know" will use Newton, as they do now, to get to and from the bridge from the M9. The junction 1a changes are long overdue.

Numptie

The good folks of Newton can rest easy for a wee while yet – the new bridge, if it's EVER built, will not be opened until around 2022 and certainly not the 2016 date currently being hyped.

Finally, a special Scottish World Cup album doesn't look like being a winner.

Makes us look like a small-minded nation of ABE supporters. I find the whole thing mortifying.

Pedantic

Makes me ashamed to be Scottish. What a sad person to come up with such an idea.

Sparts

Smacks of jealousy and bitchiness. England qualified, so why don't people just let them enjoy it while they can.
