Raptors at risk

The reduction of poisoning 
incidents involving birds of prey (your report, 14 March), is to be welcomed, however, this should not obscure the fact that shooting and trapping continues.

We know this as a growing number of dead birds are being located thanks to the increasing use of satellite technology.

So, as incidents of poisoning continue to decline, we can expect to see hen harriers 
and golden eagles, in particular, re-occupying vacant breeding ranges on grouse moors across the east of Scotland.

Now that would be a cause for celebration.
