Rape campaign

I am very impressed with Police Scotland’s efforts to educate teenage boys about rape (your report, 9 July).

Far too often, anti-rape messages are targeted at women, encouraging them to drink less, to be more aware of what is going in their drinks when they are on a night out, and teaching them how to defend themselves in the event of an attack.

But it’s very rare to see the message targeted at the people who are potentially doing the raping.

Unfortunately, I have heard some men grumbling about this Police Scotland campaign, suggesting they are being unfairly maligned, but the rape statistics (and that’s just the attacks that are being reported) are horrifying and need to be addressed.

All teenage boys need to understood clearly what consent truly means. This is a good start.
