Mr Whyte went into this with his eyes wide open, but appears only able to revel in the glory of not selling the club’s best player – perhaps add a “yet” to that – while constantly referring to the old regime for all the inherited/bought-on-the-cheap problems.

Hide AdSir David saw one or two business’s fail over the years – the Sunday Scot newspaper, Murray International Contracting etc – but stood up and paid the bill. I wonder if Mr Whyte will do the same when the taxman comes calling in November?
