Rangers woes

Why can’t the owners Craig Whyte et al at Rangers Football Club (your report, 10 September) not man up and stop hiding behind the excuse “a big boy did it and ran away” for the interest in his club’s financial problems?

The extraordinary length of the due diligence process, extended deadlines for the takeover of the club and so on was widely reported. The sale price fell over the period from several millions to £1.

Mr Whyte went into this with his eyes wide open, but appears only able to revel in the glory of not selling the club’s best player – perhaps add a “yet” to that – while constantly referring to the old regime for all the inherited/bought-on-the-cheap problems.

Sir David saw one or two business’s fail over the years – the Sunday Scot newspaper, Murray International Contracting etc – but stood up and paid the bill. I wonder if Mr Whyte will do the same when the taxman comes calling in November?

Let’s all enjoy the Old Firm game on Sunday, for it may be the last.
