Quarry extension

Gavin McCrone (“Scottish heritage in peril, 26 September”) is of course entirely correct. The planning authority could approve the proposed southern extension of the quarry at New Lanark, but reject the western extension.

The buffer zone to this World Heritage site must be protected, and I do not understand why Historic Scotland has apparently said that it will raise no objection to the planning application.

Is Historic Scotland interested only in buildings, and not in World Heritage landscape?
