Quake appeal

Many of your readers will have been concerned to read of the devastating earthquake in Yushu, a Tibetan town in China.

Hundreds of people are believed to have died, thousands have been injured and almost every building in the town has been destroyed. Thousands have been left homeless and are sleeping outside in freezing conditions.

Rokpa, an international charity founded in Scotland, which works in Tibetan areas of China, is working to get help to the people of Yushu. A team of European and Canadian doctors are planning to travel to the area as soon as possible and Rokpa-trained Tibetan health workers already in the area will be doing all they can to help.
