Put ferns first

In 2010, I had the privilege of visiting the Ascog Fernery, and what a treasure it is.

Here is an outstanding collection of ferns artistically presented in a historically significant conservatory that has been carefully restored to give today’s visitors a sense of the elegance of the past while enjoying contemporary beauty.

In addition, the fernery is surrounded by an extensive network of gardens, giving it a peaceful and most welcoming setting. In all, it is one of the best fern experiences and presentations in the world, and I – as founder of The Hardy Fern Foundation (International) and author of The Encyclopedia of Garden Ferns – have seen many.

It is of great importance
to the international horticultural, gardening and botanical community to preserve this unique property and of even
greater importance to the world’s many fern enthusiasts and specialists that this property be maintained.

It is my understanding that there is a proposal to intrude on this tranquil setting by installing wind turbines nearby.

I urge all in authority to
forbid this distracting construction. Such a fine facility which offers the public so much beauty and tranquility should be saved and not have these behemoths imposed upon them.
