Proper trade

I chuckled at Scotland becoming a recipient of a recent Fair Trade award aimed at easing the plight of farmers in the so-called poorest countries (your report, 26 February).

As a photographer, my income stream has plummeted by 95 per cent in the past three years – yet two years on I am still waiting for this government to get its procurement reform in order so that I can find out what large organisations do with all that public sector money when they win public sector contracts.

It doesn’t cascade down to small businesses, that’s for sure. Fair trade should begin at home.
