Priority for golf

In reply to Bill Nimmo's comments about the Renaissance Club's desire to extend its golf course by adding three more holes mostly on to an site of special scientific interest (SSI) (Letters, 10 March) , I am afraid that a terrible precedent has been set by Scottish ministers in allowing Donald Trump to build part of his golf course on the Menie estate in Aberdeenshire on part of the Foveran Links SSSI.

Scottish Natural Heritage has issued a strongly worded rejection of the environmental impact report prepared for Renaissance, but I wonder if the Scottish ministers will once again ignore the recommendations of this body whose sole intention is to protect the natural heritage of Scotland. If they do, then it seems that business will again be favoured far above our wilderness areas.
