Price of power

As expected, Niall Stuart, spokesman for the propaganda machine Scottish Renewables, rushes to try to discredit those who state that energy bills are rising and that renewables subsidies are to blame.

I notice in his letter that Mr Stuart only mentions gas and studiously avoids electricity. Electricity generated by turbines is far more expensive than that generated from coal or gas stations.

The Civitas think-tank said Chris Huhne’s renewables plans would mean the UK would have the highest energy costs in the world. There is growing speculation that the government is on the verge of cutting multi-billion-pound financial incentives to build (onshore) wind farms. It is believed they could cut so-called Renewable Obligation Certificates incentives for green energy projects as a means of keeping the lid on rising power prices.

An admission that turbine subsidies are pushing up our electricity bills. Oh dear, Niall Stuart could soon be out of a job.
