Price of poor care

I refer to the current outrage about the problems uncovered by the BBC’s Panorama hidden cameras in various care homes, and would suggest that the difficulty lies squarely with the owners of these establishments.

Minimum wage is the norm for these workers who perform a very difficult kind of caring, which many of us would not wish to do.

It really is time the wage structure in this very stressful occupation was regulated to attract and retain quality staff and avoid the high turnover which is prevalent in the industry.

This would lead to a better standard of care and attract those who see the job as a vocation.

Those vulnerable enough to need care deserve to be looked after with compassion, and while that cannot be bought, decent wages certainly help.
