Presence needed

Peter Jones’ critique of the finances of an independent Scotland (Perspective 5 May) is no doubt soundly based, but is it relevant to the current election?

Unionists will dominate the new parliament so there is no chance of full fiscal autonomy, far less independence, any time soon.

What is going to be an issue is legislation to implement the recommendations of the Smith Commission, and it might well be thought appropriate for the SNP to have a significant presence at Westminster when such matters are to be discussed.
