Power transfer
Although the scale of the swing towards the SNP is breathtaking in the context of the 2010 general election, it is worth noting that they have won 95 per cent of Scotland’s seats on a total vote count of 1.45 million people.
That is less than the 1.62 million who voted Yes in the independence referendum.
With the Tory Party as toxic as ever in Scotland, and Scottish Labour now apparently damaged goods, surely the time is ripe for the emergence of a pro-Union, pragmatic party of the political centre to represent the voice of the majority of those north of the Border who do not share in the Nationalist vision, and who do not believe that the transfer of powers from one group of politicians to another is a magic cure for the problems our country faces.
