Power-mad SNP

The SNP and its supporters in these columns make a great play about how much more democratic it is than the Westminster government.

In fact nothing could be further from the truth. Like all movements with “National” in their name the SNP seeks to centralise power entirely to itself.

Take, for example, a one-chamber parliament, packed parliamentary committees, a single “state” police force accountable apparently to nobody, schools having their staffing policies dictated from Edinburgh and parents under the watchful eye of an state guardian.

What a difference to the news on Wednesday that the UK Government is beginning the process of devolution to the regions with Manchester gaining increased powers over the NHS and social care with more powers to follow.

Would that the SNP practised that form of democracy in
Scotland.
