Power folly

Am I the only person who thinks the current electricity generation and distribution set-up is lunacy?

Compared with the days of steam locomotives and heavy industry, a few power stations contribute relatively little pollution. It is utter folly building gas-fired stations when oil and gas probably have a finite life while we sit on vast coal deposits.

Regarding National Grid charges, did the old SSEB have to pay to transmit power down south?

I know this sounds parochial but why can’t we generate what we want to in Scotland for our own use?

Let’s get some common sense into the electricity situation and stop pandering to the green brigade. The closure of Cockenzie was stupidity if the plant still had a working life in it and that of Longannet just the same.
