I AM sure many will have noticed, as Stan Grodynski points out (Letters, 20 January), the leading role being taken in the No campaign by prominent Labour Members of (the Westminster) Parliament, who have a strong vested interest in the status quo.

By contrast we hear nothing from Johann Lamont. As the leader of the Labour Party in Scotland, she is called on by the No campaign to forego the chance of leading a Labour administration in a Holyrood parliament with full powers at some point in the future.

Is Mrs Lamont being held gagged and bound somewhere, or is she being kept in reserve to be unleashed in the final days of the campaign? I think we deserve to be told.
