Pop priorities

SO “Jason Derulo has secured a fourth week at the top of the singles chart and there is a “Festival statue to put you in charge at Glastonbury (The Scotsman, 22 June).

As happened when Nicola Benedetti won Young Musician of the Year, but Jack 
McConnell ignored this and praised some pop singer, The Scotsman has failed to report on the wonderful performances at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World programme which ran last week and ended on Sunday. It was a total joy to watch and listen to, with young people from all over the world competing. 

It is important to publish this sort of competition result when those competing have spent years in hard study, with hopefully a lifetime career to look forward to as a result.
