Poor science

I RECENTLY wrote to the First Minister drawing his attention to the dearth of women represented in our National Portrait Gallery’s Pioneers of Science collection, with Dolly the Sheep the only female acknowledged. The courteous reply explains that although two women were considered, there were no portraits available for either.

Compare this with Newcastle’s Trailblazers exhibition at its Discovery Museum, which highlights 24 women who have made significant contributions to science. What is the message we are giving our children here in Scotland?
