Poor foundations

I read with interest your item on architecture in Edinburgh (your report, 25 March) and the apparent lack of judgment or imagination of the City of Edinburgh Council regarding planning permission.

Does this also apply to the demolition of the very interesting building at Western Corner in west Edinburgh? The building, I think, was owned by United Distillers and lay empty for some time. It was one of the few relatively modern buildings I was proud to show to friends visiting Edinburgh.

It's a sad loss to this city. I hope permission has been given for an amazing piece of architecture to replace it.
