Poor diplomacy

I was intrigued to read that the amount of wine being drunk from the government’s private cellar has soared in the past year, thanks to an increase in the number of diplomats visiting Britain for conferences (your report, 17 July).

But I was horrified to learn that most of the wine being drunk was English and Welsh.

This is no way to conduct diplomacy. You’re supposed to make representatives of other nations feel welcome.
