Pollution fears

It’s shocking to hear of the recent need to extend Edinburgh city centre’s air pollution zone by another 3.5km to the south and west of the city (your report, 26 August).

There is a clear link between a poor walking environment, congestion and air pollution.

Urgent action is needed to rebalance space for walking in the city to improve pollution levels. More space dedicated to walking and other modes of active travel could significantly help clean up the air in this part of Edinburgh.

The number of premature deaths caused by air pollution in the city every year must not continue.
