Pollution and power

Katherine Sierra (Opinion Focus, 4 June) is advocating a low-carbon path for developing countries while the G8 nations continue on their high carbon highway. She patronisingly suggests that electricity is the answer to their problems, as if starving, landless, economically powerless people could afford or use it.

Solar panels in the Sahel don't fill bellies; perhaps debt relief and a release from crippling structural adjustment regimes would be more effective.
