Poison risks

Your report (29 March) on the mass poisoning of red kites and buzzards near Conon Bridge underplays one key aspect, namely the risk to the general public, which both the police and the minister for the environment have acknowledged.

It would take only a small amount – equivalent to the size of a fingernail – of this toxic material to cause serious harm or perhaps even death to an adult, let alone a child. Those that lay out poisoned baits are only one incident away from a human fatality. Sadly, those that perpetuate such crimes seem willing to continue putting the public at risk.
