Poetic justice
Given the unusual extent of the coverage in your paper, some months ago, concerning the planning application for alterations to the Scottish Poetry Library, I was surprised that the granting of planning consent, last week, did not appear to merit coverage.
My faith has been restored in the planning system, by virtue of the fact that the requirements of the client, the library, to address the need for additional user-friendly space and some shortcomings in the existing building, have been recognised and acknowledged.
It would be a strange commercial world indeed if former architects and their acolytes dictated what changes a client was permitted to make to his own building. I think it is appropriate to refer those concerned to Shelley’s poem Ozymandias.
