Plundering plan

The latest wheeze to emerge from the left-wing Fabian Society is an absolute corker and a stark warning of how the socialist mind works.

They claim that “better off” pensioners should be stripped of taxpayer-sourced benefits, and that they be coerced into moving to smaller houses by increasing the tax on larger ones (your report, 22 April).

This idea is outrageous, unjustified, unfair and far beyond anything so far considered by any right-wing government.

The vast majority of pensioners have paid into the system through taxation during their working life and what capital they have has been saved, penny by penny, to allow them some kind of quality of life in retirement. Their homes will ultimately benefit their families once they have passed on.

However, from what the Fabian Society says, none of this matters and the elderly who have been prudent during their working lives should continue to be taxed, presumably until they finally die.
