Playing our part
George Byron (Letters, 16 August) probably knows that rules are frequently “bent” in the European Union. Indeed, the UK is notorious for the application of inconvenient rules just because they are there. Others may take a more common sense approach – which helps the EU to survive.
In considering a future independent Scotland’s place in the EU, he asks what we can bring to the table apart from shortbread. Others in the EU are probably more interested in our fish stocks than our shortbread.
There is also the constructive part which Scottish individuals, including some members of the European Parliament, have played in the EU over the past 40 years.
