Phish-mongers

John Scott Moncrieff’s article about protecting older people from theft (Friends of The Scotsman, 6 January) could also have suggested that the offspring of elderly relatives should keep a close watch on them to make sure they don’t fall for any of the phishing e-mails supposedly emanating from banks and even HMRC which suggest dire consequences of ignoring them or missing out on money “owing” to them.

I’m nearly 78 but I have sufficient wits about me to delete e-mails from banks, etc with which I don’t have an account, despite what they claim.
