Pensions honour

Lesley Riddoch (Perspective, 1 September) tries to assuage us that pensions will be honoured in full if Scots vote for independence.

But what if Alex Salmond does not get his way with the pound and then refuses to take on
Scotland’s share of the UK’S debts?

This amounts to more than £100bn, and if the Scottish government can renege on such a fundamental financial matter, the
Westminster government could
be well within its rights to seek compensatory reductions elsewhere, and their obligation to pay our pensions would be a starting point.
