Penicuik heroes

Please don't write off Penicuik as "small town obscurity" (your report, 14 July).

In addition to the "celebrity" hairdresser Denise McAdam who you feature, other noteworthy people from Penicuik include the leader of the industrial revolution James Finlayson; mathematician and seismologist Cargill Knott; children's writer Helen Bannerman; Concorde designer James Hamilton; grain scientist Geoff Palmer; Nobel prize-winning physicist Charles Wilson and, proving Penicuik has something for everyone, Tommy Banner, lead singer of the Wurzels.
