Passport plea

IF EVER there was a good case for a minister to resign for making thoughtless comments regarding an issue affecting thousands of people it would be that of Tourism Minister Helen Grant.

She advised hard-working people who had lost their holidays due to the fiasco at the passport office that there was a lot to be said for a “staycation”, staying in Britain and having a holiday here (your report, 21 June).

That remark shows how out of touch she is with the country and ordinary people. It is interesting that she is in Brazil at the World Cup at the moment; proof it seems that yet again it is one rule for them and another for us.
