Party funding

THE recent auction of lunches at the Scottish Parliament to raise party funds is deplorable (your report, 5 February). At Westminster, investigations are ongoing into the use of the dining facilities for party political purposes, so it appears that this practice is widespread. The raising of money for parties is essential, but the centre of democracy must not be sold for party political or personal gain.

The lack of furious indignation from the other parties could suggest that the SNP is not alone in this practice. Perhaps it would be best if the Scottish Parliament Corporate Body declares an amnesty for all MSPs and parties to declare any use of the facilities which has resulted in personal or party political gain.

Any money received should be paid in full to the government or a suitable charity. Where there has been criminal activity, the correct authorities should be informed.
