Parity of funding

The No campaigners are on very sticky ground when they suggest that the Scottish Government might “rig” the referendum vote if they reject any Electoral Commission proposal (your report, 22 October), as in the past Labour has rejected such recommendations on party donations and postal voting.

Also, it should be remembered that for the 1979 Scottish Assembly referendum, Labour introduced a 40 per cent rule which counted everyone who didn’t vote, including those who had the misfortune to die, as being No voters.

It is important that there is a level playing field in broadcasting throughout the UK, but only those registered to vote in the referendum should be allowed to contribute to the parity of funding, as already the No campaign has raised thousands via a Tory dinner held in London.
