Parental mistrust
While, certainly, the Named Person Scheme is fundamentally illiberal, wasteful of resources, unwieldy, bureaucratic, and an insult to every parent in Scotland, it should not be forgotten that Labour, the Liberal Democrats and the Greens also supported its passage through Holyrood (the Tories bravely abstained of course).
Thus, however catastrophic an authoritarian failure the scheme may prove – indeed, is proving – to be, blame cannot be solely laid with the SNP.
It is clear that all of our so-called representatives in Holyrood, regardless of party, distrust the child-rearing ability of honest Scots parents.
