Panda pregnancy

If Edinburgh Zoo’s female giant panda, Tian Tian, is not successful with her pregnancy (your report, 18 August) can we not please just leave the poor animal alone?

She has been artificially inseminated three times already, and if this attempt doesn’t work out surely it’s time to just accept that it wasn’t meant to be? I’m sure she’s had quite enough of the prodding and poking.
