Pain stimulus

In his article, "Meat-is-murder brigade in a stew over growth of a carnivore culture" (Opinion, 16 August), Paul Riddell notes that, while Advocates for Animals is calling for lobsters to be given legal protection from suffering, we cannot prove beyond doubt that they can feel pain and suffer.

Our new report pulls together all the relevant scientific research, which strongly indicates that cephalopods (octopus, squid, cuttlefish and nautilus) and decapod crustaceans (lobster, crab and crayfish) are capable of experiencing pain and suffering.
