Orwell inaccuracy

The letters in from Neil Sinclair and Alex Gallagher (2 May) both infer that Alan Bissett called on the names of George Orwell, John Steinbeck and others to support his Artists and Creatives for Scottish Independence pressure group. He did nothing of the kind.

He used their names as examples of politicised art, in a measured response to the composer James MacMillan’s attack on Bissett and other artists in support of Scottish independence.

By measured response, I mean that the correspondent actually read the original article, considered the context in which it was delivered, and composed a reasoned reply.

Unfortunately, Messrs Sinclair and Gallagher didn’t do likewise.
