Open to ridicule

IT HAS been reported that the Travelodge hotel group is removing copies of the Bible from its rooms in case it upsets people who are non-Christian.

It is important that we should not cause offence to people whatever their faith. Therefore, I am surprised that television companies continue to screen Vicar of Dibley. Perhaps it is seen to be justified because it ridicules the Church of England, with its overweight, oversexed female vicar serving a congregation half of whom are senile and the other half young to middle-aged and stupid. Perhaps people of other faiths enjoy seeing the Church being given such treatment. On the other hand, I wonder what the reaction would be if other faiths were portrayed in a similar manner. It is more than likely there would be public outrage.
