Online manners

I am curious about the people who leave aggressive comments under online newspaper articles.

A quick look at your letters page proves that there are many people around who are quite happy to attach their real names to their comments, even the more unpleasant sort.

I wonder: if using noms de plume was outlawed, would the standard of debate and manners be affected?
